Newtown Memorial Fund Partners with Newtown Scholarship Association to Host Betty Lou Osborne Ball – An Evening in Support of Higher Education for Newtown Students

Newtown, Conn., Feb. 25, 2014 – The Newtown Memorial Fund, Inc. announced today it will partner with Newtown Scholarship Association to host the Betty Lou Osborne Memorial Scholarship Ball. The formal event will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m. at The Waterview in Monroe. Proceeds from the Ball will benefit both organizations to advance their respective missions: providing need-based college scholarships for Newtown students and supporting families affected by the tragedy of 12/14/12.

“We are honored to be sharing in a long standing tradition of this successful event held each year by the Newtown Scholarship Association” said Brian Mauriello, Founder of Newtown Memorial Fund, Inc. “Newtown Scholarship Association is a beacon within the community, especially for the recipients of scholarships that they fund or administer. Their unparalleled level of commitment to assisting local students with rising college tuition costs aligns well with a key component of our mission of providing post-secondary school scholarships for future generations of students, specifically those who were affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.”

Individual tickets to attend the Ball are $150 per person and include dinner and dancing with music provided by the local and popular band Locomotion. A Silent and Live Auction will also be held for items that include professional sports memorabilia, an African safari, a week in Maine, a weekend in Vermont, and a night out in New York City complete with theater tickets, dinner, and transportation in and out of the city with a private driver / car.

Tickets and further event details can be found at http://newtownmemorialfund.org/event/2014-gala/.  Sponsorships are available for purchase and range in price from $500-$5,000. All Sponsors will receive tickets to the event along with program advertising and special recognition on both of the organization’s websites.  If Sponsors are unable to utilize the included tickets due to timing or location, they can donate tickets in whole or in part to first responders who serve the Newtown community.

The Ball is named in memory of Betty Lou Osborne, who served on the Newtown Scholarship Association’s Board of Directors for almost 40 years. A pillar of the community, Betty Lou was steadfast in her belief that all high school graduates from Newtown deserve the chance to attend college—regardless of their financial circumstances. Since its founding in 1937, the Newtown Scholarship Association has awarded nearly $4 million in need-based scholarships and continuing aid to more than 1,500 high-school graduates from Newtown. The scholarships are funded through the generous donations of local individuals and businesses.

NYC Half Marathon

Newtown Memorial Fund to Become an Official Charity Partner for New York Road Runners’ 2014 NYC Half

Newtown, Conn., Jan. 22, 2014 – The Newtown Memorial Fund, Inc., a sustainable fund created to support those affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, announced today that it will become an Official Charity Partner for the New York Road Runners’ NYC Half taking place on March 16, 2014. New York Road Runners (NYRR) is the world’s premier community running organization, whose mission is to help and inspire people through running. This honorable distinction provides a block of automatic entries in the race and enables individuals worldwide to join the Newtown Memorial Fund team to raise funds on the non-profit’s behalf. Runners registered for the race will be able to accept donations utilizing http://www.crowdrise.com/newtownmemorialfundnychalf2014  to easily manage and track their progress towards their fundraising goals for Newtown Memorial Fund.

The NYC Half boasts an on-street experience like no other, taking runners on a 13.1-mile tour of NYC. The course takes runners through the rolling hills of Central Park, up to Harlem, then down to the bright lights of Times Square, and along the Hudson River waterfront to a finish in lower Manhattan. The race features a talented American and international professional athlete field, charity runners, and thousands of runners of all ranks.  A new course reconfiguration this year will accommodate an increase in the field size—up to 20,000 finishers—and allow for a professional wheelchair race for the first time.

“We are most grateful for the opportunity to work closely with NYRR again for the 2014 NYC Half Marathon,” said Brian Mauriello, Founder, Newtown Memorial Fund Inc. “Last year we were named a Charity Partner in the ING New York City Marathon, which was an extremely positive experience for our organization. Running not only brings people together, it facilitates the healing process which our community continues to work towards. Being a charity partner over time with high quality annual events helps ensure that we are able to serve our mission and goals as stated, to be of support in perpetuity until there is no longer a need.”
